In buildings of the early 1900's lead was scarcely used; chimneys were often simply flaunched with cement to attempt to keep out rain. This was unreliable and CODE 3 and 4 lead was introduced to offer more permanent solutions on chimneys, bay roofs and stepped adjoining flashings.
A major cause of leaks around chimney stacks is perished and worn CODE 3 lead work. Roofline uses CODE 4 lead for the majority of domestic property projects, with CODE 5 or 6 for bay canopies, believing it is more durable in the harsh weather extremes of the Yorkshire climate. It also better resists impact from falling tiles during heavy storms.
